MTN Entrepreneurship Challenge, powered by Jumia: Applications Open



The MTN Entrepreneurship Challenge is a Pan-African challenge that invites teams from across the continent to compete for over $75,000 in prizes, including investment, cash and in-kind awards. The Pan-African competition is the first of its kind in Africa, bringing together over 1000 entrepreneurs, students and investors, to collaborate on ways to amplify and consolidate the continent’s entrepreneurs.Targeting more than 60 universities in 13 countries across Africa, the competition will challenge students to develop a unique digital application or smart solution that will solve a tangible problem faced on the continent. Applications are now open until March 27.

Teams will have the opportunity to meet and network with early stage investors, experienced business professionals and successful entrepreneurs who will serve as judges. Reflecting both the MTN Solution Space’s and Jumia’s passion for responsible e-business, the focus will be on sustainable and responsible digital solutions for the African market. The main criteria that will be evaluated are the following:

  • Fit for African Market
  • Operational feasibility
  • Innovation and financials 

The selection committee will announce the 3 finalist teams who will be flying to Cape Town, South Africa to pitch their ideas at the Entrepreneurial Festival where the winners will be announced.

About the MTN Solution Space:

Born out of a partnership between MTN and the University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business, the MTN Solution Space is distinctly African. Started in 2014 as an African innovation hub, they seek to inspire, nurture and equip the next generation of African innovators.
