Minesweepers: Towards a Landmine-Free World is an international robotics competition that will be held in October 2017 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It aims to foster robotics research and applications in the area of ‘demining’ the world.
The competition is organized by IEEE RAS Egypt and Hadath GIE, where the teams are supposed to compete in designing and building a minesweeping robot, which can fulfill a series of simulated real-life missions in detecting and defusing mines.
In this competition, each participating team constructs a teleoperated/ autonomous unmanned ground/ aerial vehicle that must be able to search for underground and aboveground anti-personnel landmines and UXOs.The position and the type of each detected object are visualized and overlaid on the minefield map. The robot must be able to navigate through rough terrain that mimics a real minefield.
To be eligible to participate, you must be:
University undergraduate students can participate in the academia class.
Elementary and high schools students can participate in the junior class.
Professional companies can participate in the industry class.
Teams looking to participate in the academia class must have a recommendation letter from their supervisors from university.
Participants are allowed to have mentors, support and sponsorship from companies, NGO and individual graduated students or professional engineers.
The minimum number to build a team is two members, and the maximum is ten.
Early registration ends on May 25, and late registration on June 25.
