This year’s ArabWIC 5th Annual International Conference on Arab Women in Computing will be taking place from August 10-12 at the American University of Beirut.

This conference will explore the state of the art of computing/technology, the latest innovations and trends, entrepreneurship and the role of women in tech startups and of women VC’s.

Women’s enrollment in computer science courses, their involvement in industry and academia, gender gaps, positive trends as well as barriers in the field will all be examined.

Moreover, the conference will feature renowned technical researchers, keynote talks, interactive technical workshops, hackathons, mentoring sessions, networking, career coaching for all levels, a career fair featuring top tech companies, and a gala to celebrate women in technology.

Conference days will be marked by a series of keynotes, panels, discussions, Q&A’s and workshops: The following is a sample of the keynote speeches that

  • Keynote 1: Current and Future Technology Plans by Lebanon’s Government, by Dr. Enaya Ezzedine.
  • Keynote 2: Preliminary research findings on Arab Women in Computing: Representation, Challenges and Opportunities, by Prof. Sana Odeh.
  • Keynote 3: Women disruptors: why women in tech is the key to economic prosperity and how open innovation can help close the gap, by Hala Hanna.
  • Keynote 4: IBM Research’s Cutting-edge Innovations transforming industries and Society, by Dr. Kaoutar El Maghraoui.

Also, several research papers and academic endeavours will be presented during the course of the conference, which will culminate with a technology hackathon.
