The Arab Economic Forum in its 22nd round

The 22nd round of the Arab Economic Forum will take place on the 19th and 20th of June 2014, at the Phoenicia Hotel in Beirut.

The Arab spring has turned from a promising transformation to internal conflicts, moving governments’ focus away from economic development, and undermining tourism and the countries’ ability to attract foreign investment. In Lebanon, the Syrian crisis has slowed economic activity and overwhelmed the country’s ability to cope.

The forum aims to tackle and assess head-on direct and long term impact of these developments to duly to come up with a positive plan of action.

The main topics will include:

  • The crisis of Democratic rule and parliamentary system in the region.
  • The economic outlook for Arab spring countries.
  • Youth unemployment as a destabilizing factor and long term threat.
  • Arab banks and the onset of Basel III.
  • Arab Central Banks and post crisis regulatory policies.
  • Prospects and potential financial impact of Lebanon oil and gas finds.
